Welcome to Billy’s Music GarageAlbum Cover

Today my blog is going to be a album review. The Album I am reviewing today is The Apostasy by Behemoth.

Behemoth is a band that is considered to be in the blackened death metal category. Since they mix black metal and death metal together. Their vocals are delivered in a death metal growl.

Behemoth is a band that hails from Poland.  The band consists of :  Nergal who is the lead guitarist as well as band vocalist. Inferno who is listed as drums of annihilation. Inferno is probably has the fastest double kick drum I have ever heard. The third member of Behemoth is bassist Orion. They also list Seth who is their touring and session guitarist.

The Apostasy was released in 2007 by Century Media.  This album is very brutal at high volumes and I find it sounds better played loudly. It might scare your neighbors though.

This album has eleven songs in all.

•1.    Rome 64 C.E.

•2.    Slaying The Profits Ov Isa

•3.    Prometherion

•4.    At The Left Hand Ov God

•5.    Kriegsphilosophie

•6.    Be Without Fear

•7.    Arcana Hereticae

•8.    Libertheme

•9.    Inner Sanctum

•10.  Pazuzu

•11.  Christgrinding Avenue

The first song on the Rome 64 C.E. is a short instrumental.

Slaying The Profits Ov Isathe Second song is a continue from the Rome 64 C.E. Intro. This song is a good song with lots of very dark sound like most Behemoth songs. This song is filled with the vicious instrumental-ism that I love about this band.

Prometherion is the third song on this album. I believe they made a video for this song. It’s fast and fierce. With lots of good guitar solo breaks. Did I mention at times Behemoth can sound a lot like Morbid Angel at times.

At The Left Hand Ov God. Starts out with an excellent Acoustic part I find myself repeating over and over. The song sounds like It’s title.

Kriegsphilosophie starts out with the ferocity of Inferno’s drumming and sets the tone for this song. This band has a way of sounding like they are from the distant past with there views of the past and with their lyrics bring to mind old world Europe.

Be Without Fear the Sixth Track on this album is a favorite of mine to listen to. It has a really good heavy groove that flows throughout. You can head bang to this song it’s very rhythmic. Kind of like some really good Fear Factory songs.

Arcana Hereticae is the seventh song. Has a really good slowed down heavy marching groove to it. Like most songs by Behemoth this song moves and shifts dramatically throughout.

Liberthemestarts out with a excellent disjointed guitar solo and builds up around the riff. The groove in this song and the guitar playing is excellent. You can always count on Nergal to lay down some really great guitar tracks on every song.

Inner Sanctumis a really great song on this album that I like a lot. It has Warrel Dane from Nevermore in on the vocal duties. The Lyrics are dark and to have Warrel sing some of the words adds to the overall hopelessness of this classic dark and demented tune. This song has it all. It has a little acoustic break as well. Great guitar work. If  you have not heard Behemoth before listen to this song first!

Pazuzu is a really heavy and vicious song. It has the viciousness of most of the songs on this album. Ever shifting, brutal drumming. Very aggressive song.

Christgrinding Avenue sounds as evil as the name implies. Drum solos always sound good with this band. Starts out at break neck speed and then slowes at the end for brutal effect.

The Apostasy is a album I would recommend to a fan of Morbid Angel who has never heard black metal. I feel that this music is a graduation from bands Like Slipknot. The older I get I want to get away from commercial metal and dig deeper. Behemoth is a band you can go out digging with. Some of the most brutal metal I will probably ever hear. I would recommend this album to any serious metal fan.
